I have the honour to acknowledge the re-
ceipt of your despatch No.89 of the 30th. of March approving the appointment of the chree Drain Inspectors recommended in the report of the Sanitary Surveyor to the Sanitary Board on the subject of the Latrine and Urinal accommodation of the City and its connection with the fouling of Storm water drains, but on the salaries shown in the papers of particulars which ac- companied Sir H.Blake's despatch No.22 of the 19th.of January.
2. The Drain Inspectors' recommended by Mr. Drury as will be seen by a reference to Pare C paragraph II of his report are the same as the three Inspectors rererred co1 un- der the heading House Drainage in the report from the Medical Officer of Health daued. che 21st. of July 1899, and who were ul- timately included in the five additional Inspectors whose appointmen. was recommended by Dr. Ackinson and Dr. Clark in their report to the Sanicary Board of the 20th. September 1899.
Both of the reports referred to formed enclosures
in Sir H. Blake's despatch No.362 of the 7th.of December.

I am unable to explain why Mr. Drury who
has gone on leave set down salaries of only $600 per annum for the Drain Inspectors he recommended.
